Find your “something” that give you strength

Yes, I am still talking about not giving up (read about it here). No, I’m not going to drop the subject any time soon.

As I said before, not giving up on what we love to do can be a really tough task at times. Even if you consciously decide to embrace this self-supportive kind of attitude, there will be times when you’ll be thinking “I’m not good enough” or “I can’t manage to do it” or “damn it to hell, what I was thinking?”.

Well, this is exactly the reason why you have to find something, a sort of mantra or totem or whatever you want to call it, that helps you regain your focus during hard times. It can be what you want: a sentence, a quote from a movie or a book, a book itself, a song, a playlist of songs, a place where you feel at ease, a little rubber ball to squeeze, a picture of your children… but it must be something that reminds you about why you decided to follow your passion.

For me (surprise, surprise) that something is music (you can read about my inordinate love for musichere). Given that I have a specific playlist almost for everything (writing, driving, reading, cooking), it’s not so difficult to imagine that I have a motivational playlist, full of songs that reminds me of how important passion is and how bad I feel when I let it go.

Some songs gained their place in my motivational playlist because of the lyric, other because they remind me of specific moments in my life, other because of their rhythm. A few examples? Ok…

  1. I am what I am – Gloria Gaynor
  2. Respect – Aretha Franklin
  3. Roar – Katy Perry
  4. Fighter – Christina Aguilera
  5. Time of your life – Green Day
  6. Eleanor Rigby – The Beatles
  7. Can’t hold us down – Christina Aguilera feat. Lil’Kim
  8. Welcome to the jungle – Guns N’ Roses
  9. Hold on – KT Tunstall
  10. …and more!

And so… what’s your something? Do you have one or are you still searching for it?
